Pattern: Crochet Rainbow Cushion

Materials

Any DK weight yarn (I’ve used Paintbox DK in shades pansy purple, kingfisher blue, grass green, buttercup yellow, blood orange, rose red)

3.5mm hook

Needle

Scissors

Stuffing

Abbreviations

TC – treble crochet (U.K.)

DC – double crochet (U.K)

Ch – chain

Inc – increase with 2 TC’s in stitch

Notes

Work in rows, turning your work at the end of each row.

Join next colour on top of the one you have just finished.

Pattern

  1. With purple yarn – magic ring, 6TC
  2. Increase in each stitch (12)
  3. TC, inc.  Repeat across (18). Fasten off yarn and sew in ends.
  4. With blue, 2 TC, inc. Repeat across (24)
  5. 3 TC, inc. Repeat across (30)
  6. 4 TC, inc.  Repeat across (36). Fasten off yarn and sew in ends.
  7. With green, 5 TC, inc. Repeat across (42)
  8. 6 TC, inc. Repeat across (48)
  9. 7 TC, inc. Repeat across (54) Fasten off yarn and sew in ends.
  10. With yellow, 8 TC, inc. Repeat across (60)
  11. 9 TC, inc. Repeat across (66)
  12. 10 TC, inc. Repeat across (72) Fasten off yarn and sew in ends.
  13. With orange, 11 TC, inc. Repeat across (78)
  14. 12 TC, inc. Repeat across (84)
  15. 13 TC, inc. Repeat across (90) fasten off yarn and sew in ends.
  16. With red, 14 TC, inc. Repeat across (96)
  17. 15 TC, inc. Repeat across (102)
  18. 16 TC, inc. Repeat across (108)

Make two.

With right sides facing out, place the two rainbows together. Using red yarn, or a contrasting stash yarn, DC in each stitch around [3DC in corners].

Remember to stuff before closing and sewing in remaining ends!

I made this monochrome version using Stylecraft cotton in black and white and alternating between the shades every three rows.

 

The pattern is easily adaptable for any weight yarn.  I’d recommend going down half a hook size on what is recommended to ensure your stitches are tight and to reduce the amount of stuffing visible.
